Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis officially flagged off the trial run of Mumbai Metro Line 9 on Monday, marking a significant step toward enhancing urban connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The trial journey covered the stretch from Dahisar to Kashigaon, a critical segment of the Red Line 9 corridor, which is designed to link the rapidly developing Mira-Bhayander belt with the broader Mumbai suburban network.
Metro Line 9, an extension of the existing Red Line (Lines 7 and 7A), is a key infrastructural development aimed at easing traffic congestion, reducing travel time, and promoting sustainable transport. Spanning approximately 11.3 kilometers, the line will ultimately connect Dahisar East to Mira-Bhayander, significantly improving access for thousands of daily commuters.
During the flag-off ceremony, Fadnavis emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming public transport in Mumbai through efficient and modern infrastructure. He noted that the new metro line will not only improve regional connectivity but also contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing the dependency on private vehicles.
The trial run is part of the final testing phase before commercial operations commence later this year. Once operational, Metro Line 9 is expected to serve as a lifeline for commuters in the western suburbs, linking them to major transit points across the city.
