The ambitious Yamuna clean-up project has officially begun, with authorities aiming to rejuvenate the river within three years. Raj Niwas has reaffirmed its commitment to restoring the lifeline of Delhi, emphasizing that significant improvements will be visible in the coming years. The initiative dates back to January 2023 when the National Green Tribunal (NGT) established a High-Level Committee (HLC) led by Mr. Saxena to oversee the river’s restoration efforts.
Under this plan, various measures, including wastewater treatment, reduction of industrial pollution, and solid waste management, have been prioritized to address decades of environmental degradation. The committee is working closely with multiple agencies to ensure effective implementation and monitoring of pollution control measures. Officials have outlined a structured timeline to achieve significant milestones, bringing the Yamuna closer to its natural state.
Authorities have expressed confidence that the combined efforts of government bodies, environmental experts, and local communities will lead to a cleaner, healthier river. With sustained action and stringent monitoring, the Yamuna rejuvenation project is expected to transform the water body into a revitalized and thriving ecosystem within the next three years.
