Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, are once again under a legal cloud as the Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) probes a serious ₹60 crore cheating case. While the couple has vehemently denied the allegations, the case has intensified with Raj Kundra recently recording a detailed statement with the police.
The complaint was filed by a Mumbai-based businessman who alleges he was duped of over ₹60 crore in a loan-cum-investment deal related to the couple’s now-defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. The complainant claims the funds, which were meant for business expansion, were allegedly misappropriated for personal use. In a significant development, the EOW questioned Kundra for over five hours at an undisclosed location to avoid media attention.
The investigation has revealed that funds from the company were reportedly transferred to various individuals and other companies, including fees for Bollywood celebrities. While Raj Kundra has provided a statement, officials have indicated that he will likely be summoned again as the investigation proceeds. The EOW has also issued Lookout Circulars (LOCs) against both Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra to prevent them from leaving the country while the probe is underway. The legal team for the couple maintains that this is a civil dispute and that all allegations are baseless. As the EOW continues to trace the money trail, the case remains a developing story, with more information expected to surface in the coming weeks.
